Problems with the Design of Short Drop-Height Soft Flow Chutes

By Paul Munzenberger
Article - Lessons Learned from the Design of Chutes

The constraints on the design of a chute in a new material handling plant are often defined by a plant designer and are locked in before a chute designer is consulted. The chute designer is then forced to design a compromised chute which may perform poorly. The main issue of concern for the chute designer in this scenario is the lack of sufficient head height to employ soft flow chutes. In this article, the Author discusses some of the chute problems resulting from a short drop height.
